"The ECU calculates a high-rpm retard based on a weighted sum of knock retards for the lower rpm knock regions. I went into this in some detail in the follow auto-FAQ " This only works if you put in lower octane fuel and it goes into a knock map before peak torque, no matter what the TT min is set to. If you use a boost controller and increase boost to where it will detonate, or on a hot day it detonates under boost easier, the stock ECU provides no change if it does not get any knock below 4400 RPM, no matter what settings you have in the available tuning maps. On a boosted application, it is always more likely to have knock at peak torque and above.
